Tigers Place 3rd at Region 6 Championships
Winfield, KS – Fort Hays Tech Northwest Men's Cross Country placed 3rd (79 points) at the Region VI/KJCCC Cross Country Championships on Friday, with three runners, Kabelo Maja, Sibonokuhle Thwala, and Lucky Maila achieving All-Region awards.
"I'm very happy with the results," commented Head Coach Stephen Sambu. "Everyone did their best and overall the team performed well. Celestine has been improving a lot, both her and Brynne ran their personal best at the meet. Hopefully, everyone will be healthy and injury-free for nationals."
Men's Results (8k)
Kabelo Maja led the way for the Tigers, placing 7th, with a time of 24:29.45. Sibonokuhle Thwala placed 12th with a time of 25:02.19, and Lucky Maila finished 14th with a time of 25:12.48.
Salisu Habibu finished next in 21st with a time of 25:56.26, and rounding out the scoring for Northwest was Daniel Cornelissen, placing 25th with a time of 26:11.42. Also competing was Ronin Rybnika, finishing 31st with a time of 26:38.10.
Women's Results (5k)
Celestine Kiborus led the way for the Lady Tigers, placing 18th overall with a time of 19:20.81. Brynne Purvis finished next, placing 53rd with a time of 24:34.09.
Cross Country's next meet will be November 9th, at the NJCAA Cross Country Championships in Richmond, Virginia. The Tigers will also compete in the Half Marathon Championships on the 12th.
