Tigers Compete at Maverick Open
Tonkawa, OK. — Fort Hays Tech Northwest Men's & Women's Wrestling teams competed at the Maverick Open, with the Women competing on Friday, and the men on Saturday. The women's team would have one finalist, while the men's would have a total of three placers.
Women's Wrestling Notable Performances:
Lindsay Henggeler (138 lbs) placed 2nd, winning her first match by Fall in 23 seconds before losing by Fall to Clover Williams (Unattached) in the Finals.
Men's Wrestling Notable Performances:
Ernest Grant (125 lbs) went 4-0 placing 1st at the tournament, with his first three matches with bonus points, including pinning his opponent in the semifinals. In the finals, Ernest one by Decision over Canaan Brummett (Cowley College) who was ranked #12 at 133 lbs.
Trace Brisendine (133 lbs) placed 2nd, going 3-1 on the day. Trace had a tough first match, winning in Sudden Victory, before winning his next two matches by pinning his opponent in the first period and majoring his opponent in the semifinals. In the finals, Trace would lose by Fall to Case Jurgens (Southeast CC).
Nathan Bailey (141 lbs) placed 4th, going 4-2 on the day, winning three of his matches with bonus points. Bailey would ultimately fall short in the 3rd place match, losing by Major Decision to Jeremiah Brown (Southeast CC).
Women's Wrestling's next competition will be at the Dust Bowl Open on November 15th in Colby, Kansas. Men's Wrestling will return to competition on November 16th at the Grand View Viking Open in Des Moines, Iowa.
