Track & Field Place 8th at Outdoor Regionals

Northwest Track & Field competed at the Region VI Outdoor Championships on Friday and Saturday, where the Men's Team placed 8th.

"I was very pleased with our performance," commented Coach Kiptoo. "Everyone competed hard, I was particularly impressed with how high we finished, given the size of our team. Hopefully, we will be able to compete well at Nationals in two weeks." 

 

Sprints & Field Events 

In the 100-meter Prelims, the Mavs had three runners, with Derrick Harbin placing 11th with a time of 10.47 seconds. Jaydon Moore and Jaysaun Smith also competed, finishing 18th and 19th with times of 10.65 and 10.66 seconds. 

In the 200-meter Prelims, Marcus Purcell led the way, placing 13th with a time of 21.47 seconds. Derrick Harbin placed 15th with a time of 21.52 seconds. Jaysaun Smith finished 17th in 21.77 seconds.

In the Men's 4x100 Meter Relay, the Mavericks placed 4th with a time of 40.39 seconds. The relay included: Derrick Harbin, Jaysaun Smith, Marcus Purcell, and Jaiden Carter. The same group competed in the Men's 4x400 Meter Relay, with the Mavs placing 11th with a time of (3:25.09). 

In Pole Vault, Brayden Shaw competed, placing 3rd with a vault of 4.47 meters, setting a new school record for the event. In Women's Shot Put, Hope Perry competed, placing 15th with a throw of 9.21 meters. Hope Perry also competed in Javelin, placing 12th overall with a PR of 28.67 meters.

 

Long & Middle Distance

In the 1500 Meter Run, Brian Kiptoo placed 1st with a time of (3:54.76) with his teammate, Raphael Kitur, finishing just behind with a time of (3:54.95) in 2nd. 

In the 5000 Meter Run, Brian Kiptoo lead the way again for the Mavericks, finishing 2nd with a time of (15:34.63). Placing 3rd was Peter Kipkemboi, with a time of (15:35.01). And finishing 4th was Raphael Kitur with a time of (15:44.37).

 

NT Track & Field will have its final competition at the NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Hobbs, NM. The competition will start Thursday the 18th and run through Sunday the 21st.
