Tigers Break Records at Regionals
Fort Hays Tech Northwest Track & Field traveled to Coffeyville, Kansas, on Friday to compete at the Region VI Outdoor Championships. The men's team placed 14th, scoring 26 points with two school records broken in the 800m and 4x800m. The women's team also placed 14th, scoring 4 points with a school record broken in the 100m.
Sprints & Field Events:
In the women's 100m dash, Mikela Coombs placed 16th, breaking her previous school record with a time of 12.26 seconds.
In the women's 200m dash, Mikela Coombs finished 20th, with a time of 25.73 seconds.
In the men's 400m run, Maciej Bachlaj finished 30th, with a time of 53.24 seconds.
In the men's 400m hurdles, Noah Mitchell placed 10th, with a time of 57.76 seconds.
Middle & Long Distance:
In the women's 800m run, Carolyne Jepkosgei finished 12th, with a time of 2:31.00.
In the men's 800m run, Sibonokuhle Thwala placed 2nd, breaking the previous school record, with a time of 1:53.78. Salisu Habibu finished in 12th, with a time of 1:57.92.
In the women's 1500m run, Carolyne Jepkosgei placed 7th, with a time of 5:09.24.
In the men's 1500m run, Sibonokuhle Thwala placed 1st, with a time of 3:54.87. Lucky Maila placed 7th, with a time of 4:06.14.
In the women's 5000m run, Celestine Kiborus placed 7th, with a time of 19:44.71.
In the men's 4x800m relay, the Tigers placed 3rd, setting another school record with a time of 7:48.26, putting them at the 10th fastest time in the nation. The relay started with Salisu Habibu, then with Maciej Bachlaj as the second leg, Lucky Maila as the third, and anchored by Sibonokuhle Thwala.
Tech's next meet will be at the NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday, May 15th, in Hutchinson, Kansas.
